an overall perspective, Zhou Zhi Fen’s works are typical contemporary oil paintings. What he concerns about and what graphics he employs have contemporary meaning. As for the composition, Zhou seems to have a preference for using unrealistic scene, which seems to have an unstable but clear structure. Some of his works are much closer to print in composition. This obviously has a relation with his previous experience of making wood print. Of course, this creating means has it flaws, which are the inane of space and the absence of visual logic. To solve these, he uses uncertain body language and the free permeation of color traces, creating concise and tranquil modern space, meanwhile overcoming the limitation of forms. (Zhu Ming)

在《以梦为马》这一系列的作品中，我尝试在黑白两个极端中寻找独特的视觉体验，表现出对灰色（中间层次）极其自制，而并非印象中传统的水印木刻图式，以画面的单纯性来表达静穆及神秘感。后来的一些作品则通过版与版的重叠，水与墨的层层反复渗透，探索灰色肌理的各种可能性，希望这种语言图式能唤醒某些记忆。
In the series of RUN WITH THE DREAM, I try to find the unique visual experience between the extreme black and white, presenting the discretion of grey. Compared with conventional watermark woodcut schemas, the pureness of the scene expresses tranquility and mystery. Hoping that the linguistic schema can refresh some memories, some of the later works explore various possibilities of grey’s texture by the overlap of layers and repeated permeation of wash and ink.
